How are you involved in agriculture?
“I have always been involved with cattle as long as I can remember and have loved it. I helped my mom and dad with their cattle before I got my own. I started out raising and showing my own heifer when I was 10. When I was 11, I was showing 12 different animals at one time. But that was, well, it was hard, so now I’ve cut back. Right now I have eight Chimaine/Chiangus crosses – six cows and two calves. I’ve named my herd the Nubbin Cattle Company, because Nubbin is what my great-grandpa used to call me.”
What are your responsibilities with your cattle?
“My responsibilities are to keep all their shots updated and I take care of feeding them. I check on them every day. I take care of all the needs of my cattle, except the breeding, and my parents help me with that.”
What is your favorite breed?
“I started out with the Chiangus, went to the Chi and Maine, and then the Angus. I like the Angus.”
What are your plans for the future?
“I want to be an ag teacher and I am planning on attending the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. That’s my main thing, keeping cattle and livestock. I always intend to have my own cattle.”
Why are you involved in agriculture?
“I love it. I would encourage anyone to do it, anything with livestock. It keeps you busy, not out doing bad things like parties; it keeps you doing fun things and you meet new people and learn a lot.”
