Name: Kelsei Krueger
FFA Chapter: Verona FFA, advisor Joe Moore
Parents: Dad, Robbie and mom, Terri
How are you involved with agriculture?
“I lived on a dairy farm until I was 12. Both my mom and dad were raised on dairy farms. Then we moved to town for a couple of years, and moved back to the country, to Pierce City, Mo., a few years ago.” Kelsei’s family started building their turkey barns in August 2008, and she’s been involved with the family turkey business ever since. “I’ve grown up around agriculture,” said Kelsei, “And I love it!”
What is your involvement in the FFA?
Kelsei is Vice President at the Verona FFA Chapter. She’s involved with the Development Committees. “The community committee I’m involved with hosts Verona school’s blood drive,” she said, “I’m also really into my greenhouse class. We’re getting ready to start planting seeds and sell flowers in the spring throughout the town.” This year Kelsei will be a part of the Floriculture contest team, and she plans on running for a chapter office again next school year.
What is your FFA project?
“We have three gardens here at the farm,” Kelsei said. “We grow a variety of vegetables for our family to eat throughout the summer.” The other part of her SAE includes helping get the barns prepped (she prepares feed buckets and monitors the temperature) before the turkeys get to the farm. She also helps with chores at the farm every day.
Should youth be active in agriculture?
“I think that youth being involved in production agriculture is a really good thing because they can learn so much from adults around them. I also think it’s important for them to stay involved in agriculture because it’s an important subject to learn about. Also, growing up working on the farm has helped me develop a work ethic that wouldn’t have developed if I hadn’t grown up here.”
