Name: Tiffany Jordan
In Town: Tiffany and her husband, Jess Jordan, own Danielle’s Bridal & Special in Clarksville, Ark. The store opens at 10 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closes at 6 p.m. everyday except Saturday, when it closes at 2 p.m. Danielle's Bridal has the largest inventory of bridal, prom and pageant wear in the Arkansas River Valley.
In the Country: Tiffany is the fifth generation farmer on the family’s original 200 acres in Minnow Creek. Ten years ago, they added about 115 acres to Pine Mountain Ranch. “We have 225 purebred and commercial-cross Santa Gertrudis cows. We run three herd bulls,” Tiffany said. Although time makes it difficult to show as much as she used to, she still shows cattle locally.
Family: Husband, Jess; Tiffany’s grandfather, Duane Steele continues to play a major role in the farming activities. Her mother Lynn Steele and grandmother Allene also help out whenever they are needed on the farm and in town.
What type of feed and supplements do you give your cattle?
“They all get loose salt mix with magnesium and calcium and mineral blocks available year round. In the winter we feed hay and supplement with 20 percent range cubes to the cows and bulls. The show calves and yearling heifers get a 12 to 15 percent protein mix year round.”
How do you choose what to supplement?
“We buy all of our feed from the local Co-op. So, we talked to their feed specialists. We also talked to Chris Bacchus, (the local Agri teacher), and other people to see what they are using and how much. We depend on our experience, too. If we feed something and the cattle don’t grow out well on it, we don’t feed that anymore. Price is also a factor since the price of feed has gone up so much.”
How do you balance time at your shop and time at the farm?
“Having those hours (the store is open) means I don’t have to get here too early, and I usually get home before dark. That gives me time to get things done."
