Years ago, when I was a professor at the university, one of my favorite courses to teach was Soil and Water Conservation.

If someone ever comes up with an award for the fastest farmer in the world, I have the perfect nominee, and likely winner, for the prize.

When I came to work at Ozarks Farm & Neighbor a little over a year ago, I knew I had found my “dream job.”

Few things in married life make me nervous. One is my husband asking for the checkbook. It means he wants to go to an auction. Over the years, my entrepreneur-husband has convinced me to help raise a variety of livestock and poultry. Things start out seemingly interesting and fun, but after a couple of weeks my partner (husband) and children lose interest and I find myself alone endeavoring to keep animals alive.

I had the sad occasion, a few weeks ago, to attend the funeral visitation for one of the most influential mentors of my life. I realize that few of my readers, outside of the county in which he taught vocational agriculture for his entire career, will know who I’m writing about – but I would wager (or at least, hope) that almost everyone has a “Mr. Young” somewhere in their life.

When I came to work at Ozarks Farm & Neighbor a little over a year ago, I knew I had found my “dream job.”
