Hometown: Ozark, Missouri
County: Christian
Family: Wife, Karrie
Sons: Justin and his wife Abbey; Kaleb and Keetan
Three grandchildren: Haygen, Hogan and Kameron
In Town: During the day, Jason works for the city of Nixa as the Water Quality Superintendent. This means he oversees the day-to-day operations of water distribution, the water collection system, the wastewater facility and the recycling center. He has worked for the city since 2001.
In the Country: The Stutesmuns live on two hundred acres south of Ozark and do a little bit of everything on the farm. Jason runs a small cow-calf operation, which they market at local sale barns. In addition to cattle, he also raises Boer-Angora cross goats. They also cut and bale their own hay which is an orchard grass mixed hay.
While Jason is an expert in water quality, he also specializes in forestry, allowing him to dabble in providing timer products to individual buyers.
Despite already having a busy farm operation, Jason continues to work to improve what he. Has for the young farmers-to-be in his family.
“My future goal is expanding our hay operations and keeping the farm running strong for the next generation.” Jason said.
Jason’s family has lived in Christian County since the 1890s, specializing in steam engines, threshing machines, sawmills, and of course, livestock. He likes knowing he has contributed to a part of his family’s history and legacy, whether through feeding livestock, putting up hay, or restoring old farm equipment. Like so many farmers, he enjoys what he does.
“Its’ a way of life that’s hard to beat.”
