Hometown: Elkland, Mo.
Family: Husband Jason and daughter Kassidie
In Town: Stacy Eagleburger has been a stylist since 2008 and opened her own salon, The Best Lil Hair House, in 2010. She moved the salon to her Elkland, Mo., family farm seven years ago.
In the Country: Stacy grew up in Kansas, and her family moved to Missouri in 1993.
Growing up, her family had commercial cattle and horses.
“We just dabbled in it, but when we moved to Missouri, we started getting more cattle. We started buying bottle calves at the sale barn, gave them names, and would sit out in the field and put daisies in their ears from the holes from the ear tags,” Stacy recalled with a laugh.
Stacy, her husband Jason and daughter Kassidie currently have about 45 head of registered Angus.
“When I got together with Jason, he had a polled Longhorn and a couple of commercial cows,” Stacy said. “The first registered Angus we bought, Dandy, was from Day Cattle Company in Marshfield. Jason’s brother Jeff is also a registered Angus breeder, so that was a big factor for us, too.”
Growing up, Stacy said the family herd was based on color, and moving into the registered cattle has helped her learn more about the industry.
“We look at the structure and what’s going to have thick, solid leg and support a big belly,” Stacy said, adding that EPDs are also now a part of the selection equation.
Most of the breeding of their herd is done via AI, which is mostly done by Jason, followed by clean up bulls. The herd is primarily spring calving.
“We have kind of progressed,” Stacy said. “Instead of us keeping semen in Jeff’s tank and Jeff doing the AI’ing, we have gotten a bigger tank and are getting bigger lots of semen and becoming a little more independent. Jeff has worked with me a tiny bit on AI’ing, and one day, I might be able to do a little of it myself.”
Stacy added that Jeff still helps out, and they help Jeff and his wife Pam on their farm. The cooperation and partnership are mutually beneficial.
Kassidie competes in local, regional, state and national shows throughout the year, including Angus Junior Nationals.
“I feel like she gets to experience so much more than a lot of kids get to,” Stacy said. “She shares bonds and friendships with not only kids her age but adults and parents who want to inspire kids. It’s been great for our family. Besides providing quality beef, the thing that hits my heart is everything Kassidie gets to do within it, and she shares what she learns. There have been a couple of kids she had helped get involved in showing.”
