What is your involvement in agriculture?
“I’m the president of my FFA chapter, and I run my own a cow/calf operation. I also work at Red Dirt Genetics in Perkins, Okla., which is a dairy farm.”
What do you enjoy about farm life?
“I enjoy the animals, the experience of seeing how life works and where our food comes from. I’ve always been more of an animal-type of person; I like to see how life is created and to take care of the animals.”
What are your future plans?
“I plan on continuing working with my dairy cattle and attending college to be an embryologist. I want to have my own cattle operation, the beef and the dairy side. On the dairy side, I enjoy the Jerseys, so one day, I would like to have my own herd of Jerseys on a dairy farm and my own herd of Angus cattle. My aunt and uncle own Red Dirt Genetics, and I started going there and working. I told them I loved it there and the Jerseys, so I get to help with their show string.”
Awards: Ashtin was recently awarded the 2023 Oklahoma FFA Dairy Production Placement State Proficiency Award for her work at Red Dirt Genetics.
“I had to put in all of the information about me working there, and it took me four months to do it,” she said. “It was something for me to put into words what I do and how I enjoy it. I was sitting there (at the convention), and I couldn’t believe my name was called and that I was the state winner. Once it set in, there was a lot of ‘you did it,’ and ‘all your hard work and the application process was worth it.’”
