COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Missouri received national recognition recently for a series of educational programs on issues raised by the 2014 shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson.
The program won a first-place WOW award at the Osher National Resource Center Conference in Charlotte, N.C. The WOW awards are presented to Osher programs that produce “wonderful, amazing, out-of-the-box experiences” for Osher attendees throughout the nation, said Kristin Millikan, director of MU Extension’s Osher program.
Julie Middleton, MU Extension director of professional development, kicked off the eight-part series in January 2015. Attendees examined law and order issues with speakers from the Missouri Supreme Court and other groups.
“The idea behind the series was to examine law and order issues from a variety of professional and personal perspectives,” said Millikan.
