WAYNESVILLE, Mo. – The Veterans to Farmers workshop allows veterans to explore farming at two free workshops to be held this month.
MU Extension agricultural business specialist Patricia Barrett said the workshops will be held 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 13 and 20 at The ARK on 25625 Missouri 17, Waynesville, Mo.
Specialists from University of Missouri Extension, Lincoln University and the USDA present programs on livestock and direct marketing, vegetable production, how to write a business plan, farm loans for veterans and beginning record keeping.
More than 300,000 veterans are expected to return to rural Missouri in the next decade, and Barrett said many are expected to return to farming or begin farming. Rural areas account for 44 percent of those that enlist in the military.
Workshops are open to all veterans and their families. Farmer-mentors and current farmers who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences are also invited to attend, Barrett said.
Register for the workshop by calling 573-329-8500, or you can email [email protected] or Barrett at [email protected]. MFA Agriservice of Lebanon will provide lunch for those who register by June 11.
University of Missouri Extension, Center for Rural Affairs and Sustainable Ozarks Partnership sponsor the event.
