Alpha Omicron Pi earns excellence award

Though the Omega Sigma Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi at Oklahoma State University is only two years old, the chapter was the recipient of several awards at the sorority’s leadership institute held recently in Nashville.  

The chapter was awarded the Ruby Level Standards of Excellence, the highest level a chapter can receive, as well as recognition awards for Excellence in Sisterhood and Excellence in Fraternity and Sorority Relations.

“Winning these awards at the Alpha Omicron Pi Leadership Institute was really amazing because we are such a new chapter,” said Kaitlyn Hankins, chapter president. “To reach Ruby Level Standards of Excellence as a two-year-old chapter is almost unheard of.” 

Hankins was accompanied to Nashville by fellow Omega Sigma collegians Meg Martinez, Alycia Griffin, Samantha Mori and Anna McCrarey, as well as chapter advisor Julie Lambert.  

This year’s Leadership Institute gave members of the Omega Sigma chapter a chance to visit the Headquarters of Alpha Omicron Pi. They also met with the people responsible for planning, financing and decorating the Omega Sigma chapter’s new home just a few blocks from campus. 

It was also an opportunity to network with Alpha Omicron Pi sisters of all ages. “I left having met at least 10 new women, ranging from other collegiate chapter presidents to Alpha Omicron Pi international presidents, which is an absolute honor,” Hankins said.

Attending this conference and being recognized for excellence is a major accomplishment for the members of the Omega Sigma chapter. It helps “keep them going forward,” according to Hankins. “There is a lot that goes into the standards of excellence and we have been very focused on achieving the highest level. It really affirms all of the hard work that we have put into the chapter.”
