Director of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler will visit Hermann Middle School later this week to present to recognize one green-thumbed student. Ethan Towery, a 4th grade student, will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Bonnie Plants during an assembly in the school gymnasium Friday morning.
Ethan was selected as Missouri’s state-wide winner for last year’s Bonnie Plants 3rd Grade Cabbage Program, in which students receive a Mega Cabbage plant in class to grow throughout the summer. His cabbage weighed more than 16 pounds.
Dr. Hagler will be joined by representatives from Bonnie Plants and Hermann public schools for the announcement. Last year was the 11th year for the cabbage program, which has distributed plants to more than 27,000 Missouri 3rd grade students.
