(SEDALIA, Mo.) – Laurin Dilly, daughter of Kevin and Dolynn Dilly, from Deerfield, is the exhibitor of the 2012 Grand Champion Steer at the Missouri State Fair.  Her steer weighed 1,300 pounds. She is a member of the Clayton 4-H.

The Reserve Grand Champion Steer honor went to Shelby Lane, daughter of Terrill and Dana Lane, of St. Catharine. Her steer weighed 1,295 pounds. She is a member of the Brookfield FFA Chapter.

On Aug. 18, Laurin’s and Shelby’s steers will be two of 12 lots offered in the Youth in Agriculture Sale of Champions. Proceeds from the annual sale benefit both the winning exhibitors and the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship Program.

Because of the generous support of Youth in Agriculture sponsors, the Missouri State Fair is able to award scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Last year, twenty four $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship were awarded to youth across the state.

To become a Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture supporter, contact Wayne Yokley at 573-690-8987 or Rodney Heimer at 573-393-2452.

Results and photographs of many of the competitions will be posted at www.mostatefair.com as they become available.
The 2012 Missouri State Fair is currently underway in Sedalia and will continue through Sunday, Aug. 19.
