National Ag Week and National Consumer Protection Week to be celebrated March 4-10 this year
(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – Missouri agriculture provides the essentials to everyday life and the Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) is celebrating National Agriculture Week, March 4-10, by highlighting the story of agriculture and consumer protection efforts within the industry.
Throughout the week, the Department of Agriculture will host events and showcase advancements in technology, agricultural achievements and growth through partnerships, as well as the many other ways agriculture is moving forward in Missouri. The Department will also highlight its efforts to ensure a fair marketplace for both producers and consumers in honor of National Consumer Protection Week.
“It is important for consumers to learn how food, fiber and renewable resource products are produced and marketed, and their value to maintaining a strong economy, vibrant communities and healthy families,” said Director of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler. “From meat, vegetables and grains to medical and fuel products to the cotton fibers in our clothing, agriculture is working harder than ever to meet the needs of Missourians and others around the world. Celebrating National Ag and Consumer Protection weeks is one way we can help consumers understand the many ways agriculture impacts their lives every day.”
It is especially fitting that National Agriculture Week and National Consumer Protection week are celebrated concurrently this year, as agriculture and consumer protection go hand-in-hand, from food safety to animal welfare to ensuring a fair marketplace for both buyers and sellers.
The week will also include special announcements on other Missouri Department of Agriculture programs, and special features on the Department’s blog, ThinkOutsidetheBarn.com.
With 108,000 farms located throughout the state, Missouri’s agriculture industry is a national leader. Missouri producers farm 29 million acres of land, and consistently set records for production, connect with consumers and embrace new technology.
