(ROLLA, Mo.)—Supporting the future of the Missouri sheep industry is a key strategy for the Missouri Sheep Producers (MSP) organization. Offering four $750 scholarships to current and former 4-H and FFA members involved in the sheep industry is one way the organization accomplishes this strategy.
“Youth involvement is important to the sheep industry,” says Sarah Gehring, president of MSP. “The Missouri Sheep Producers feel that by supporting the youth now they are more likely to continue in the sheep industry as they become adults.”
“Applicants are selected based on their sheep industry involvement, character, academic achievements, educational goals and financial need,” said Ray Jones, scholarship committee chair. College students and high school seniors who are Missouri residents or out-of-state students attending a Missouri school are eligible for these scholarships. Recipients must be former or current 4-H or FFA members actively involved in a sheep project for at least three years.
Applications can be downloaded from the MSP Web site at www.missourisheep.com/youthprograms.htm. The application deadline is May 15, 2012. Scholarships will be presented at the Missouri State Fair.
