Chicken Sheet mobile application for farm management

Time efficiency in managing livestock and poultry operations is crucial for everyday operators by encouraging them to turn to mobile applications for farm management.

Numerous apps have been integrated into livestock operations, including Cattle X, Ranch R and Cattlytics. However, one poultry application is especially popular in Northwest Arkansas.

Logan James, a third-generation poultry grower from southwest Arkansas, developed the app Chicken Sheet, which is used to “manage daily activity, past flock performance, earnings, and expenses with just a few taps on the screen,” he said.

Raised on a broiler farm and having previously worked for Tyson Foods at the corporate level, James wanted to improve poultry farms in Arkansas, surrounding states and beyond. In 2012, Logan drafted the idea and over the next 10 years he realized more growers had smartphones, which encouraged him to launch the app in February 2024.

Currently, 50 farms are registered on the app in Northwest Arkansas, and a total of 900 are registered across 26 states.

“Poultry growers needed a better way to understand and apply metrics to help them define and find success on the farm,” said James.

Although times have changed from 20 years ago, Chicken Sheet remains easily accessible and keeps data safe and convenient to reference, James said. “The app was thoughtfully designed to be easy for anyone to use, regardless of how tech-savvy they are.”

The mission and purpose go hand-in-hand: Chicken Sheet focuses on flock, financial and personal data. While the purpose is to aid short and long-term planning based on past and present data, these features are effective for farmers by storing records, aggregates and analysis of data.

Key features include “three profile types on the app made with certain users in mind, allowing different levels of access to the farm’s data: Admin (farm owners), Staff (farmhands), and Visitor (flock managers),” James said.

Chicken Sheet relies on advertising to keep the app free for users. Poultry farmers can find more information about the app at FlockEngine.com or by searching for Chicken Sheet in Apple or Android device stores.
