What is your involvement in agriculture? I own and operate a registered and commercial cow-calf operation of Angus, Red Angus and Charolais cattle. I began my herd in the fall of 2019 after I fell in love with a heifer named “Charlotte”. I have been very involved in the livestock industry ever since I can remember. I began in my early 4-H years showing rabbits, soon, thereafter I started showing chickens, cattle and goats. Most recently throughout my high school career, I have been able to show cattle, pigs, goats and lambs at county, district, state and national levels. Through all these experiences and many life lessons, I have learned that hard work and dedication truly pays off in the end.
Advocating for agriculture seems like second nature to me. This year, I have had the amazing opportunity to join 130 FFA members from across the United States and advocate for an industry that not only feeds us, but clothes and houses us as well. As a National FFA in the USA Reporter, I’m able to share stories and highlight FFA chapters across the state of Arkansas. For the past two consecutive years, I have been elected as Bergman FFA’s Vice President.
What is your favorite part of being involved in agriculture? My family owns and operates H&W show feeds, a feed store that specializes in feed and supplements for show livestock. Throughout my time selling feed and stocking shelves, I have obtained an incredible amount of knowledge in feeding livestock. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and cherish the connections I have made throughout this experience. This has allowed me to network and establish relationships with individuals in the agriculture industry across Arkansas. Many community members come to me needing help with their show projects and I find great joy in helping other achieve their goals. I am always willing to lend a helping hand and if I am unable, I try my best to put them in contact with people who can.
What are your future plans? I am currently a junior at Bergman High School and my future seems like an open book. I will graduate from college with an Associate’s Degree during the fall of my senior year of high school. I then plan to run for Arkansas FFA State Office and further my education at the University of Arkansas. However, I’m still not entirely sure what I would like to major in. I would like a career in agriculture-one that helps people and involves communication.
