Owner: Kirk Powell

Location: Green Forrest, Ark.

History: Gene Powell started the business in 1942 and it was located on the town square. Gene sold the business to his brother Daniel Kirk (D.K.) & John Powell in 1974. D.K. bought out John in 1975. The mill was then moved next to the North Arkansas Livestock Auction barn in 1986.

The business is now owned by D. K.’s son, Kirk Powell. Kirk says feed was a seasonal operation. “We were always making turkey feed for the range turkeys, but they were all gone by Thanksgiving. We’d start making cattle feed through the wintertime and start up turkey feed again around February. It was strictly a mash bulk feed operation back then. We started making pelleted turkey feed in 1986 after we moved the mill.”

In addition to this business, the Powell’s are stakeholders with the North Arkansas Livestock Auction in Green Forrest. The Powell family have been involved in production agriculture for more than three generations and being farmers themselves, they know what their customers want and need. They have four feed mills and sixteen retail locations in northern Arkansas and southern Missouri.
