What is your involvement in agriculture?

I have been involved in agriculture from birth. My family lives on a small farm in Pleasant Gap, Missouri where my grandparents, great grandparents and even great-great grandparents resided.  I have been involved in 4-H from a young age and transitioned into FFA when I entered high school. My SAE project has primarily focused on establishing a Red Angus cattle herd and I am blessed to be able to rent my grandparents farm to begin my dream. I have also enjoyed showing chickens and have been fortunate enough to spend time with my mom and grandma in this hobby. In addition to my cattle, I help with our hay harvest and just recently purchased an old gleaner to combine fescue. My senior year, I was fortunate to be hired by Seider Farms, to work on a row crop operation. This has allowed me to gain experience with planting, earthwork, fertilizing and harvesting.

What is your favorite part of being involved in agriculture/living on a farm?

I enjoy the variety of activities each day brings. I also enjoy problem solving new situations that arise. The feeling of watching my efforts grow is rewarding.

What are your future plans?

After graduation from high school I plan to continue working for Seider Farms. In addition to farming, I plan to continue to grow my Red Angus herd and expand the amount of land I am able to rent and maintain. I appreciate my parents and grandparents for encouraging me and helping me get started. Their support enables me to continue to pursue my dreams of remaining in agriculture.
