What is your involvement in agriculture?
“My family has carried on a few generations of beef farming. We have raised primarily black Angus, started adding in Red Angus a couple of years ago, and then decided to add Hereford bulls to get baldies. Recently, we started a beef company ‘Big Rock Beef’. We take the cattle that were born and raised on the farm to sell for meat. I have gained a lot of work ethic on the farm. I help my dad and grandpa with pretty much anything they need. Some examples are fixing fences, hauling hay, taking care of the cattle, hauling machinery, and welding. Besides the farm, I am very thankful that I get the opportunity to be so involved in FFA; I am also the chapter’s president. Advocating for agriculture is one of my biggest passions; I hope to get more youth involved in the future of agriculture.”
What is your favorite part of being involved in agriculture/living on a farm?
“Growing up on a farm has taught me why the agriculture industry is so important, and I get to experience that firsthand. Not only that, I also get to carry on a family tradition. Knowing I get to wake up every day living on a farm with livestock is the best feeling ever. I love spending time with my cattle whenever I want, and just being able to ride around the back roads makes me happy.”
What are your future plans?
“In the future, I hope to be a welder. I have been throwing around ideas in my head about what field of welding I want to work in. Welding is a very big part of agriculture; nothing would run without being welded along the way, but welding involves more than just equipment.”
Awards: “Through FFA, I have received the Star Greenhand Award, Chapter Scholarship Award and Chapter Leadership Award. I was also selected for the 2023 HYMAX (Helping Youth Maximize their Agricultural eXperience) Academy.
