BETHANY, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension is offering a free six-week class to help those living with chronic health conditions.
Friends, families, caregivers and others are welcome to attend “Living a Healthy Life With Chronic Conditions,” says MU Extension nutrition and health education specialist Janet Hackert.
The class begins April 4 at the Harrison County Community Hospital meeting room. Classes run 9-11 a.m. for six consecutive Mondays.
Researchers at Stanford University developed the program to help people gain self-confidence in their ability to manage their own health. Hackert and Sarah Linthacum of the Harrison County Health Department teach the class.
Examples of chronic health conditions include arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, cancer and fibromyalgia.
Hackert says participants can learn relaxation techniques and other ways to manage fatigue and stress more effectively. They’ll learn tips for nutrition, physical activity and how to form helpful partnerships.
Space is limited. Call the Harrison County Health Department at 660-425-6324 or the MU Extension Center in Harrison County at 660-425-6434 by March 31 to preregister. When registering, please note if you will need special accommodation because of a disability.
