COLUMBIA, Mo. – 4-H members from across the state will compete in livestock judging, public speaking and horse demonstrations Sept. 12 at the University of Missouri.

The livestock judging contest, in Trowbridge Arena, is the state’s largest livestock event except for the Missouri State Fair, says Bob McNary, MU Extension 4-H youth specialist.

The contest is open to four senior members 14 and up and four under-14 members from each county. “Because of the popularity of the contest we have to limit the number,” McNary said.

Counties often hold competitions to determine the students who will represent them at the event, he said.

The public speaking contest will be held at the MU Animal Sciences Research Center, where students will present a prepared speech. Horse demonstrations will consist of a presentation on a specific horse topic.

Register by August 15 at www.4honline.com. For more information, contact your local MU Extension center.
