Oklahoma State University President Burns Hargis and other campus leaders welcomed what is expected to be the second largest freshman class in university history at new student convocation Friday in Gallagher-Iba Arena. OSU’s fall semester begins Monday.
Student enrollment continues, but the current new freshman class stands at more than 4,070, up from 3,872 freshmen a year ago. It is only the second time an OSU freshman class has reached 4,000. OSU had the largest freshman class in state history of 4,289 in 2012. A few of the highlights from this year’s freshman class:
- 29.7% have an ACT of 27 or higher
- Average ACT of 25
- 15.8% have a 4.0 high school GPA
- 25.4% were in the top 10% of their high school class
- 66% come from Oklahoma
- 47 states are represented (all but Hawaii, South Carolina, Rhode Island)
- 28% minority students
- 346 Valedictorians
- 19% are first-generation college students
“It is always exciting to welcome new students to our campus,” said Hargis. “This is another strong academic class and we look forward to these students making an impact on OSU and earning their degrees. OSU has great momentum across many areas and our enrollment growth is a result of the quality education, the value and the great student experience OSU offers.”
Total enrollment for the combined OSU-Stillwater and OSU-Tulsa campuses currently stands at more than 25,000 and should eventually approach last year’s combined enrollment of nearly 26,000.
