COLUMBIA, Mo.– Swine producers can listen to industry experts present relevant and timely information through the distance education programs PorkBridge and SowBridge.
The programs are a collaboration of nearly a dozen universities from across the country, said Marcia Shannon, a professor of animal science at the University of Missouri. “We try to hit on hot topics in the swine industry that are relevant. Producers will gain valuable information to improve their operations.”
PorkBridge is a series of six teleconferences throughout the year that focus on issues for grow-finish swine operations. SowBridge consists of 12 monthly teleconferences that focus on issues dealing with sows.
Before each conference, participants receive a CD containing a PowerPoint presentation and other files on the conference topic. Subscribers call a toll-free number to join the teleconference.
A subscription to PorkBridge is $125 and SowBridge is $250 for the entire 2014-15 program year. All that is needed is access to a telephone and a computer with a CD drive. Internet access is not required to participate.
“It’s very economical,” Shannon said. “There is no travel required and you can learn about topics that are important in the swine industry.”
Participants should register by Jan. 15 to guarantee receiving materials for the first teleconferences, which will be held the first week of February. To register for PorkBridge or SowBridge, call 515-294-4496.
