The holiday spirit will come alive at the second annual Fanfare of Lights celebration being held Dec. 3, 2013, on the Oklahoma State University campus for members of the Stillwater community.
Events begin at 7 p.m. in front of Edmon Low Library. Guests will receive glow sticks and free cookies and cocoa. Local students from Will Rogers Elementary, Stillwater Junior High School and Stillwater High School will lead the crowd in singing traditional carols. At 8 p.m.
First Cowgirl Ann Hargis will officially light the campus for the 2013 holiday season. The OSU Brass Ensemble will perform following the campus lighting.
Fanfare of Lights is sponsored by Arvest Bank of Stillwater, OSU Student Union, Campus Life, OSU Student Government Association, OSU President’s Office, Stillwater Junior High School Choir, Stillwater High School Choir, Will Rogers Elementary Music Students and the OSU Brass Ensemble. All events are free and open to the public.
Brandon Mitts, Allied Arts & Special Events coordinator, said the Fanfare of Lights gives the OSU and Stillwater communities a common place to make great holiday memories together.
“A great part of this tradition is the countdown to the campus lighting,” Mitts said. “It feels like New Year’s Eve in Times Square. A lot of work goes into placing all of the orange lights. When they are turned on at the Fanfare of Lights, it is very impressive.”
For decades as a part of the OSU Allied Arts office, special events is responsible for the coordination and production of many popular campus events such as the Fanfare of Lights, the Miss OSU Pageant and a variety of high caliber professional speakers and performers.
