What is your 4-H project?
“This year I will be showing both sheep and chickens at the county, district, sanction and state levels in both the spring and fall. I will be showing lambs from Iowa this year, but my sisters and I took out a loan from Farm Credit and purchased our own sheep so next year we will breed our own lambs.”
How did you get started with 4-H?
“When I was 5 my dad’s friend had a son named Daniel who was in 4-H with sheep. My dad asked how everything worked. I soon started and have been going ever since. Because I started with sheep, it just seems natural to always show them. Then I got into incubating chickens which is also really fun.”
Favorite 4-H moments: “Just recently I went on a 4-H Citizenship Focus Trip to Washington D.C. I got to meet Representative Steve Womack, and he took us through the back part of the capital onto the Speaker of the House balcony right above where the President gets inaugurated. I also really enjoyed when we were the 4-H Family of the Year in 2010 and also being the Crawford County Council President.”
Favorite possession: “When I was really little I was in the hospital for food poisoning. During that time I got a stuffed lamb that I have always kept. I guess I’ve liked them since I was little.”
