The Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges today adopted the recommendations presented by a task force charged last July with conducting a comprehensive review of the policies, practices, and procedures of the Board of Regents and the higher-education institutions it governs.
The Board of Regents adopted the five recommendations made by the task force as well as revised several policies in the Board Policy Manual. The majority of the recommended changes related to campus safety and security.
Regent Chair Andy Lester said, “I am pleased with the thorough examination of the policies and procedures by the task force led by Regent Tucker Link. It is important that our policies and procedures be clear and that they promote the welfare and safety of the students attending the various institutions governed by this Board. The swift adoption of the recommendations by the Board of Regents today underscores our firm commitment to strengthen campus safety, to handle any misconduct swiftly and appropriately, and to provide transparency in how our institutions are governed.”
Oklahoma State University President Burns Hargis said, “I appreciate the deliberate work of the task force and the Board of Regents to help bring clarity to our policies. The task force created an opportunity for us to have a serious conversation on how best to handle sexual misconduct situations in the future. The task force was efficient in carrying out its charge. We will promptly implement the changes recommended by the task force while we also assure students the University will treat them with the utmost respect and give them full support when they come forward with an allegation. As Chair Lester has stated on several occasions, we will not tolerate misconduct and will vigorously investigate claims as we follow the revised policies and procedures.”
