Oceanographer Robert Ballard, best known for his discovery of the sunken Titanic, will headline Oklahoma State University’s annual Research Week. Ballard will present “Adventures in Deep Sea Exploration: Living the Dream” on February 20 at 7 p.m. in the Wes Watkins Center. His talk, which will include photos and tales from many of his expeditions, is free and open to the public. However, seating is limited so guests should arrive early.
One of the world’s most accomplished deep-sea explorers, Ballard has conducted more than 120 expeditions using the latest in exploration technology. Currently a professor of oceanography at the University of Rhode Island, Ballard is also a powerful storyteller and a passionate scientific educator. He founded the Institute for Exploration and has pioneered distance learning in classrooms around the world. Through his JASON Project, 1.7 million students a year join scientists virtually as they experience the thrill of exploration and discovery.
Ballard’s presentation will be followed by a time of Q&A with attendees as well as a reception.
Research Week, which is February 18-22, will feature a variety of other speakers, symposiums, performances and presentations – all aimed at highlighting the impact of research and creative activity.
