I hope you had the opportunity to get outside for the opening of deer season. It was such beautiful weather for November – it’s almost hard to believe, but that’s weather in the Ozarks for you.
I didn’t have the chance to go hunting but I was able to enjoy the great outdoors. In fact, I spent the weekend overlooking the mountains in Arkansas. I went to Arkansas for mostly work and snuck in some time to play also.
On my trip I stopped to stay with some friends who own property in Washington County, Arkansas. Their view is absolutely stunning. Not much else compares to waking up in the mornings when the light is still soft and seeing the Boston Mountains in the fall.
And since no one hunts on this property, I was able to enjoy it while driving a four-wheeler, one of my favorite modes of transportation. I was a little offended though, when the guys who led me on the ride asked if I could even drive one. I was driving four-wheelers long before I could drive a car.
Some people may argue that I drive a four-wheeler better than any car – I’ve totaled a car but never totaled a four-wheeler. Maybe a few close calls but definitely never totaled a four-wheeler.
Offended or not I was grateful for the opportunity to ride and the chance to see more of the Boston Mountains.
I also had the opportunity to spend a little time at deer camp, enjoying chili, a bonfire and making some new friends. So I still got the benefits of hunting without having to hassle with cleaning a deer, I guess that makes up for it.
If you were like me and didn’t get the chance to hunt opening weekend, I hope you have the time to go at least once this deer season. And maybe you’ll have time to teach a child in your life the love of hunting, but be sure to teach them hunter’s safety too.
Best wishes,
