STILLWATER, Okla. – If you have an interest in gardening and want to share your knowledge with others, The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University wants you.

Laura Payne, volunteer coordinator for The Botanic Garden at OSU, is excited to announce applications are now being accepted for the 2013 Payne County Master Gardener Program and The Botanic Garden at OSU Ambassador Training Program. Applications are due Dec. 14.

“The Payne County Master Gardeners train alongside The Botanic Garden at OSU Ambassadors, and while the horticulture aspect of the training is identical, the two programs actually serve two very different but related functions to the garden,” Payne said.

The Master Gardeners is primarily an educational group dedicated to sharing gardening knowledge obtained through the OSU Cooperative Extension Service.

The Botanic Garden Ambassador Program’s main objective is to support The Botanic Garden at OSU and its role as a public garden.

Training for both programs consists of 11, four-hour training sessions covering all aspects of horticulture. Sessions begin Jan. 18, 2013, and meet every Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at The Botanic Garden’s educational building, 3425 W. Virginia in Stillwater.

The educational material for this program is designed for the beginner or the advanced gardener. Topics to be covered include vegetables and fruits, annuals, perennials, insect and disease control, soil improvement and lawn care.
