JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.- A new 4-H equestrian drill team will perform at the Nov. 10 Fall Harvest Youth Horse Show at the Central Missouri Events Center in Columbia.
The team, composed of 4-H members from Cole and Miller counties, formed in February and held auditions for the 2012-2013 team just six weeks ago. But members, ranging in age from 10 to 17, already have ambitious goals of attending the United States Equestrian Drill Competition Super Ride in Lindale, Texas, in June.
4-H Volunteer and Drill Team coach Diane Temmen said the idea for the team began in 2011 when her daughter, Ashley, attended a clinic at the Missouri Equine Council Celebration. They were invited to learn more about drill teams and performed with the Show-Me Thunder Drill Team in 2012. Auditions for the 2012-2013 team were held in September. Participants were required to perform a horsemanship pattern that they had learned in advance, and an individual and group pattern learned on the day of the audition.
Team members from the Mid-Missouri Bit and Bridle Club of Cole County and the Spring Garden Club in Miller County include Ashley Temmen and Chuck Wilbers, team captains; and Catie Dampf, Alexis Binkley, Paige Tube, Colton Warren and Jenna Anthony. Diane Temmen is the coach.
The group makes their debut performance at 8:45 a.m. Nov. 10 at the Central Missouri Events Center, formerly known as the Boone County Fairgrounds.
