STILLWATER, Okla. – Noted animal scientist George Seidel, Jr. will be the keynote speaker at the Nov. 1 Oklahoma State University 19th Annual Totusek Lectureship.

A teacher and researcher in Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences for more than 35 years, Seidel will provide insights on how to improve livestock production using new reproductive technologies.

“Dr. Seidel is an exceptional leader in his field, and we feel that the OSU community – along with alumni and industry professionals – can benefit greatly from his seminar,” said Sara Linneen of the OSU Animal Science Graduate Student Association (ASGSA), which has sponsored the event for nearly two decades.

Seidel has been active in the development, refinement and teaching of nonsurgical techniques of recovery, transfer and cryopreservation of both bovine and equine embryos. He was also influential in the development of a simple and reliable procedure for bisecting embryos, producing identical twins in many species.

The 2012 Totusek Lectureship will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Robert M. Kerr Food and Agricultural Products Center, located at the corner of Farm Road and Monroe Street on OSU’s Stillwater campus, just south of Hall of Fame Avenue. A dinner will precede the seminar at 5:30 p.m.

Participants are asked to RSVP no later than Oct. 22 with Kyle McLean of the ASGSA by email at [email protected] or by phone at 405-744-9275.

“We are excited about the opportunity to share valuable animal and food science information in honor of Dr. Bob Totusek, an OSU animal science faculty member for more than 35 years, including serving 14 years as department head,” Linneen said. “He has been a tremendous asset to OSU, Oklahoma agriculture and the U.S. livestock industry.”

In 1997, Totusek was initiated into the Saddle and Sirloin Club at Louisville, Kentucky, the most prestigious national honor awarded to members of the livestock industry. The organization features the world’s largest gallery of portraits devoted to a single industry.
