STILLWATER, Okla. – Follow on Twitter, “like” a Facebook page, share a link, subscribe to a blog feed, create a board, become a fan; just a few of the many buzz phrases circulating in today’s social media realm. With the introduction of various social media platforms, a transformation has occurred in the online communication landscape.
Oklahoma State University’s Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center is offering the first-ever Marketing with Social Media Training from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 in room 120 FAPC.
“Many companies want to be involved in social media networks, but they do not know how to successfully manage their sites once they create a social media presence,” said Mandy Gross, FAPC manager of communications services and co-chair of the workshop. “This training was designed to give helpful information about how to effectively use social media to keep audiences engaged and grow a business.”
Gross added that using social media as a means of distribution and interaction is a useful way for companies to market themselves in addition to what they are already doing. Companies can reach new audiences through social media outlets, which in turn, can attract new customers.
Registration deadline for the Marketing with Social Media Training is Sept. 5. The cost to register is $100 per participant. To register, visit www.fapc.biz/marketingwithsocialmedia, call Karen Smith at 405-744-6277 or email [email protected]..
The workshop will teach skills needed to effectively engage in the online social community, said Andrea Graves, FAPC business planning and marketing specialist and co-chair of the workshop.
“This training should appeal to any Oklahoma business that wants to learn more about social media, from individuals who want to get started on social media sites to those veterans who are already managing sites,” Graves said. “Participants of the training will learn how they can use this growing avenue to broaden their marketing efforts.”
Topics covered during the training include choosing the proper messaging that fits your social media outlet, using creative ways to grow your social media presence, measuring your impact through social media metrics and developing a social media strategy that fits your marketing needs.
Featured workshop presenters include Gross and Graves, FAPC; Carrie Harris Phillips, Arkansas Tech University; Brent Passmore, University of Central Arkansas; and Megan Horton, OSU Communications.
“The FAPC is excited about the opportunity to help businesses by offering the Marketing with Social Media Training,” Gross said. “The training is packed full of useful topics and knowledgeable speakers that will benefit those wanting to learn more about social media.”
