A time honored tradition celebrating family recipes and promoting Missouri agriculture, the First Lady’s Pie Contest will be held on Aug. 16 at the Missouri State Fair and hosted by Missouri’s First Lady Georganne Nixon.
“The First Lady’s Pie Contest is a Missouri State Fair tradition,” said Director of Agriculture Dr. Jon Hagler. “We look forward to seeing the hard work and creativity of Missouri families on display – from perfect crusts, creamy custards to sweet fruits.”
The contest is divided into two categories – soft pies (custard/cream) and fruit pies. Winners in each of those categories will be awarded cash prizes of up to $150. The Best of Show will receive $150.
The First Lady’s Pie Contest is open to all amateur bakers. Amateur bakers can enter by simply submitting their recipe and official Missouri State Fair entry form no later than Aug. 2. Bakers who have submitted their recipe should bring their fresh baked pie to the Home Economics Building on the Missouri State Fairgrounds by 9:30 am, Thursday, Aug. 16. The contest begins at 10 a.m.
The First Lady’s Pie Contest is sponsored by AgriMissouri, a program of the Missouri Department of Agriculture, and Starline Brass of Sedalia.
