Involvement in FFA: Besides being the chapter Sentinel, Justin actively participates in the fundraising sales, the A+ Tutor Program and the contest teams for his FFA chapter. He has been to State for both the livestock and the dairy cattle evaluation contest teams. Justin also works on the FFA Farm in Ozark, Mo., Christian County. The farm is a 20-acre collaboration between the FFA class and the construction trades class at the high school. Through the farm, both classes learn the importance of teamwork and making things with their hands. “FFA teaches you life skills,” said Justin. “It’s based on what each student can do to help the agricultural community of tomorrow.”
Life on the Farm: Justin does a little bit of everything on his family’s farm outside of Ozark; the farm is home to a herd of Angora goats, a small herd of beef cattle and three guard dogs. Some of Justin’s favorite tasks include raking hay, wrenching on the tractors and deworming the goats. He relishes the challenge of learning new farming skills and said his favorite time of year is kidding season when the babies come in.
What he does for fun: “Tractor pulling is a lot of what I do for fun,” said Justin. He is an avid antique tractor pull participant who enjoys the whole process of getting an antique tractor into pulling shape from start to finish. “I like it all,” he said with a smile. Right now he is working on an Allis Chalmers WC tractor that he hopes to have ready by the next pulling season.
