Charolette Scott
In Town:
Charolette Scott is a Missouri Department of Transportation maintenance worker for Greene County.
In the Country:
Charolette keeps a herd of seven horses on her Ozark, Mo., farm, as well as a flock of 28 chickens, a turkey hen and a tom (named Tom) and three dogs. Her farm has been in her family for over 100 years. The area in Christian County where she and her livestock reside was originally part of 200 acres that backed up to a one room schoolhouse nestled in a holler near Woodsfork.
Best thing about working for MoDot:
Charolette says the best part of her job is that “you get to meet different people and you get to do different things.” She enjoys the diversity, but at the end of the day she is always glad to come home to her animals.
Hardest part of the job: “Snow pushing when the weather gets bad.” Her biggest concern is making sure she gets the roads clear enough for everyone to drive safely during Missouri’s often hazardous winter weather conditions.
Favorite things to do on the farm:
When she is not driving a mower or doing road repair, Charolette enjoys spending time at home with all of her critters, tending to her vegetable garden, breaking in her colts and doing round-pen work with her older horses.
Future Plans:
Charolette says she hopes to begin raising some calves in the near future for both money and meat and also to give her young Blue Heeler something to herd besides the horses.
