Location: Purdy, Mo.
History: Bill Davis and Jerry Sumners bought the Farmers Flour and Feed store from Damon Wormington and Ralph Davis in 1972. Rex Henderson was hired to manage the store and is still there. In 1973, Sumners sold his share to Bill’s son, Gary.
Purdy Flowers and Gifts: Almost 5 years ago, Gary and Judy opened the flower shop in the old lumber yard building on the same block as the feed store. The flower shop boasts a drive-up window.
Farm Center Success: Rex is quick to point out that he has the best customers in the world and great employees. Kathy, the bookkeeper, has been there almost 39 years, Danny, one of their drivers, has been there for 30 years. The business depends on repeat customers and all the employees are willing to do whatever is needed to keep their customers happy. Rex said “We sell good products at reasonable prices and give excellent service.” The store offers feed, custom mixed feed, fertilizer, seed, vet supplies, hardware, fencing, plumbing and electrical supplies, hay rings, water tanks and feeders.
