Name: Emanuel Castro
Family: Brothers: Eduardo Castro and Carmen Vellon
FFA Chapter: Rogers High School, advisor: Joann McKim
Why did you join FFA?
"I took an animal science class and my teacher, Ms. McKim, the advisor, told me about FFA. I decided to join to find out more about raising dogs."
What do you want to tell other kids about joining FFA?
"You learn a lot about a lot of things. I was at one fair and we did not have enough kids to judge dairy cattle. Even though I was prepared to judge something else, I studied with a friend for a little while and judged dairy cattle. I ended up coming in first as a judge and the friend who taught me came in second. I've made some really great friends through FFA. We are really close because we have worked together so closely."
What else have you done with FFA?
"I participated in the Floriculture program. We had to memorize all sorts of plants and ended up doing pretty well. Next summer, I'll go to the 82nd FFA Arkansas State Convention to get my State Farmer degree."
What do you want for your future?
"I really like animals and want to work with them. I want to study to be a veterinary technician. There is no school here in Arkansas for that so I am going to go to Oklahoma. I am going to Murray State College in Tishomingo. I really like where Ms. McKim lives. She has horses, dog and cats. I want to own a place in the country like that where I can have horses, German Shepards and other types of dogs, goats and cats."
