Why did you choose to open your own business?
“I just felt like we had a need here in the community. People have to drive 20-25 miles in order to get anything. I mainly did it as a service to my neighbors to try to have something they might need in a tight. They can call me anytime. I come over here a lot at night, Sundays and whenever. I live just a quarter of a mile across the creek.”
What types of items do you carry?
"Powell Feeds furnishes all my feed. I have all the Powell products and Purina products that they have. I get my vet supplies from K & K Vet Supply in Tonitown. I can get just about anything. If I don’t have it, I can get it in a few days. I just try to have what people need when they are in a pinch. Things like calf milk, colostrx, antibiotics or just anything they might need.”
What do you think keeps your customers coming back?
“Thanks to Powells, I think that I am fairly competitive, especially now with high gas prices, if you have to drive to get feed. I am just here half-days, and I try to keep the overhead as low as I can. I’m not trying to do anything big. I am just trying to be of help to my neighbors, really. I would like to think that I am of service to them. That’s what I want to be.”
